How It Works

When BarkCard launches, it starts a lightweight web server on your computer (port 7743). Any device on the same network can open the URL in a browser to see a live view of the monitoring session.

No app to install on your phone. No account. No cloud relay. The video and audio stream directly from your computer to your phone over your local network.

Setup

1. Start a recording session on BarkCard.
2. Look for the remote monitoring URL at the top of the Monitor tab (e.g., http://192.168.1.70:7743).
3. Open that URL on your phone (or any browser on the same network).
4. You'll see the live camera feed, session timer, vocalization count, and detection log.

Requirements

• Your phone and computer must be on the same WiFi network, connected via VPN, or on the same mesh network.
• Your computer's firewall must allow incoming connections on port 7743.
• If you're on a corporate or public network, local connections may be blocked.

Monitoring From Anywhere

Remote monitoring works over any network that connects your phone to your computer — it doesn't have to be the same WiFi. If you use a mesh VPN like Tailscale, ZeroTier, or WireGuard, you can monitor from anywhere in the world as long as both devices are on the same tailnet or virtual network.

This is especially useful if you want to check on your dog from work or while out. No cloud relay, no port forwarding — the VPN handles the connection privately.

What You Can See

• Live camera feed — MJPEG stream at ~5 fps
• Session timer — how long the session has been running
• Vocalization count — total barks, howls, whimpers detected
• Rate — vocalizations per minute
• Quiet streak — time since last vocalization
• Detection log — real-time feed of each event with type and confidence
• Audio — tap the audio button to hear live audio from the microphone
