How It Works

Record short clips of your voice, or import audio you already have. While a report card is running, BarkCard picks one at random and plays it through your computer's speakers — a familiar voice in an empty house.

Playback is spaced randomly within a gap you choose, so it stays unpredictable rather than becoming background noise your dog tunes out.

Setup

1. Open Settings → Comfort Sounds.
2. Press Record to capture a clip with your microphone, or Import to bring in an existing audio file. Clips are capped at 30 seconds.
3. Preview a clip with the play button to check how it sounds.
4. Set the minimum and maximum gap between clips, and the playback volume.
5. Turn on Play comfort sounds during sessions.

Did It Help?

Every report card from a session with Comfort Sounds on is marked, and shows how many clips played and when. BarkCard compares how much your dog vocalized in the minutes before each clip against the minutes after.

Treat this as an observation, not a verdict. Dogs often settle on their own as a session goes on, which looks identical in the numbers. The signal worth trusting is a pattern that holds up across many report cards — not a single session.

Tips

• Short and calm beats long and excited. A few seconds of “good boy, settle down” works better than an energetic greeting, which can wind a dog up.
• Record several clips. Variety keeps the sound from becoming predictable.
• Check your computer's output volume before you leave — BarkCard warns you if it looks muted or very low.
• Avoid words your dog associates with you coming home, like their recall cue, which can raise anxiety when nobody arrives.

Privacy

Clips are stored on your computer and never uploaded. Like everything else in BarkCard, recording and playback happen entirely on your machine.
